Financial literacy class shows kids they can be millionaires – FOX13 News Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A Financial Literacy Instructor is on a mission to show kids that they can become millionaires by the age of 50 if they follow simple steps.

Orlando McKay says if you start doing this from 18 to 65, in 47 years your investment could be over $ 4 million.

He teaches the Financial Literacy Course at Pursuit of God Church at SLAM Academy’s Summer Camp for Underprivileged Youth.

“What ends up happening, you take a kid who was told by the system you can’t win, you live in this neighborhood, you are in this background, you can’t win and I Immediately blow up on day one and say every kid in here can win and if you’re not all millionaires at my age, you haven’t made good choices, ”McKay said.

Jahyne Johnson, a junior at Vanderbilt, started taking financial literacy classes in grade 5. Johnson, who now saves $ 300 a month, is set to become a millionaire at age 50.

“As a major in chemistry when I get out of college I think I’ll probably start around $ 50,000 and like Mr. Orlando said 15% take that out and make smart decisions,” Johnson said. “When he told me you could be a millionaire at 50, I didn’t believe him. . “
