Iowa CPA Society CEO retires

Cindy Adams, CEO of the Iowa Society of CPAs (ISCPA), will retire in October. A search committee comprised of current and past members of the Executive Committee Board of Directors has been selected to identify potential candidates and name his successor.

Adams, a certified public accountant, has served as CEO since 2012 and has been a member of ISCPA for 40 years, including as chair of the board and as a committee volunteer. As CEO of ISCPA, Adams has also served as a member of the AICPA Task Force on the Future of Learning, National Commissioner for Accreditation, member of the Drake University School of Accounting Advisory Board, past president of the CPA Society Executives Association (CPA/SEA) and is currently a member of the NASBA State Societies Relations Committee.

“It has been an honor and a privilege for me to lead this organization and to work with and for so many outstanding, intelligent, and passionate CPAs in Iowa,” Adams said. “It really was a highlight of my long career in this profession. I am proud of the continued evolution of the Society during my tenure, striving to meet member needs and solve problems. We have accomplished many great things together, and I will remain forever grateful for the friendships and relationships I have made as CEO.

Adams is originally from Hartley. She graduated from Drake University and earned her CPA certificate in 1981. After beginning her career in public accounting, she spent over 25 years in the industry segment of the profession with Holmes Murphy in West Des Moines where she was Vice President of Information Technology. She took over the reins of ISCPA in February 2012.

“Cindy is a phenomenal leader,” said Emily Heeren, Chief Financial Officer at Corteva Agriscience and President of ISCPA. “His vision has led the company through many changes. Her passion for the profession is evident in everything she does, and I cannot thank Cindy enough for her leadership over the past ten years. She strengthened the Society and set it up for future success.
